I won’t put in the new one til January, but they have all been wonderful. Only one time a few years ago I had one that didn’t work. It was replaced with no charge.
I have had a terra-cotta filter in my house for over twenty years, and it is hands down the best water I have ever had. The clay adds a special note to a top notch filter. As far as service goes, I have never had to deal with a nicer, quick on the draw business, and Bill always responds to me personally.
We have used the Epic Water System since 2004 and have been very satisfied with both the quality of our water and the rapid response from Bill & Epic to the few concerns we have had over the last 14 years!
A couple years ago, we inherited our La Natural Large Dispenser. The filter was broken and I ordered a new one from your website. I'd never think how something so simple could change our lives.
First of all, the water just *tastes* so much better. The terracotta gives this mild, sweet, earthy flavor to the water. Water straight out of the tap tastes so metallic in comparison.
With two kids, I know that I need to fill the crock twice a day, more in the summer. I like that it's easy to monitor your water intake, which is especially good if you're health-conscious.
I have been using my counter top filter from Epic for years. It is reassuring that I have the best filtered water at my disposal especially with so many water scares all over. The taste is great and my teenage son even uses it! Wonderful product!
I first found my terracotta water filter system 16 years ago in the Real Goods catalogue. It is still going strong! I am grateful to Epic Filters for providing such a quality product that has been a mainstay of my kitchen all this time. I have recommended a terracotta filter system to many friends as well and seen a few pop up in other kitchens. One of the best investments ever. Thank you.
We bought our La Natural in 1999 in preparation for Y2K, and it is still giving us deliciously clear, filtered water each and every day! We noticed the difference in taste right away, and love drinking pure water, instead of chemicals. My kidneys actually feel so much better, since our hard water is filtered before I drink it. We just didn't know what we were missing! We replace the ceramic filters regularly and have only had to replace the spigot one time, but the replacement from Epic was actually superior to the original one! We highly recommend Epic's La Natural, especially for young families and older folks, who will physically benefit from drinking filtered water. Enjoy!
P.S. La Natural keeps the water so refreshingly cool, even in our hot Southwestern climate!
Great Customer Service
Years ago I bought the large terracotta La Natural. Since our water in Hayward is quite good as is, I was thinking more of the benefit of natural cooling and also having a source of pure water in an emergency. Enjoyed for a long time, it is now retired with the terracotta bottom serving as a plant pot.
Customer service at Epic has always been very cordial and efficient - no problem getting replacement filters or other parts when needed.
When I first became a customer of Epic Water System years ago my objective was to cut down on the number of plastic bottles (approximately 40) that I was using every week. Even though I was recycling these bottles, which is a good thing to do, it seemed to me that I remained a part of the plastic bottle pollution problem as I was still contributing to the financial incentive that is the driving force of the water bottling industry. I was rewarding them for continuing with business as usual. To begin to get a grasp on the effects of water bottle pollution on our planet and on our lives check out the concise and factual article found at this link: https://homeguides.sfgate.com/water-bottle-pollution-79179.html
So, after fiddle-faddeling around with various filtering options found on the internet I finally stumbled across Epic Water Systems and my search was over. Their filters deliver some of if not the purest and best tasting water that I have ever consumed. It is truly amazing! I use the Imperial CeraMetix® 5" GF - Chloramine, VOC, Glyphosate & Flouride filter and you cannot go wrong with this line of filters. Guests in my home are consistently amazed by the clean and refreshing taste of the water that is being produced on my kitchen counter. My home decor leans toward modern without going wacko and my Stefani Cristal Gravity Water Filter looks very nice in the kitchen. A tasteful addition.
The real bottom line in all of this is that you will not go wrong with the products offered by Epic Water Systems! Your body will thank you, your family will thank you, and your planet will thank you.
We recently moved into a new place near Winchester, Virginia where the water is quite "hard" (full of minerals). Rather than purchase a water softener unit (these dump way too much sodium into the local water table, as much as into your drinking water), I decided to take our Big Berkey (purchased around 1999) out of "moth balls". So, I ordered 2 of the Berkey "Black FIlters" and installed them about a month ago. They seem to be working perfectly, although I had some initial issues try to get them to "sweat".
I also ordered 2 of the fluoride removal filters (PF-2, I believe) since our water is city supplied and, hence, fluoridated. I had no issues with these filters as they installed well from the start. Again, it all seems to be working, as described.
If you are going to use a Berkey filter (either big or huge), then I highly recommend purchasing the sight glass spigot. This item removes the doubt as to how much purified water is left and, as a result, I have not had one instance of overfilling the purified water chamber and causing it to leak.
If you are going to place the Berkey on a counter, I would also highly recommend purchasing the Berkey base which is a stand that the unit sits on. It raises the unit about 5 or so inches and allows you to easily place either a glass or a cup or a coffee carafe under the spigot for filling.
The spigot and base are one time purchases, but they are worth the investment.
One cudo for Customer service. I was having some issues with un-purified water seeping into the lower chamber from the upper and I contacted customer service. It appeared that since I was only using two filters instead of the maximum of 4, the water was seeping through the plugs in the unused holes. Customer service (reps have been great) sent me two new plugs (mine were very old and that was probably why they were leaking) and I was "off to the races".
We have had our Big Berkey for about 2 years and our small 'RV' Berkey for 6 months. They continually deliver great tasting water (water with no taste). Water that if just wet and refreshing.
Don't have one, better get one.
All their items are first class and are as advertised.
This filter is perfect for our family. It filters so fast and the water tastes great and I feel good about giving it to my kids. So glad I discovered it!
We have private well water that is very high in iron. Water turns orange within 5 minutes of hitting the air and tastes very "bloody" or some say like "metal". We were tired of buying cases of bottled water. It was becoming very expensive, my recycling bin was always overflowing, and lugging so many heavy cases into the house was becoming overwhelming; not to mention trying to find somewhere to store them and many times, water was sold out in store! After checking every review we could, we decided the Berkey, in the long run, would make sense in every aspect. The water is orange on top, but the water comes out crystal clear, fresh, and sweet tasting. Name brand water tastes horrible now compared to the Berkey filtered water. Best investment ever!
We recently moved into a house on well water that smells VERY strongly of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur), which as I understand it is relatively safe but to me completely unpalatable. After a lot of research I settled on a Berkey, even calling the companies that do their testing to make sure they were real tests. I haven't tested the filtered/purified water since our well water was tested to be safe from bacteria but I can say it takes out the sulfur smell and taste.
The frustrating part: it clogged within three weeks. I performed a red dye test and it passed, and was helpful because it showed me one of the white plugs was leaking. But after 2 1/2 weeks of probably 5 gallons per day it slowed to an occasional drip when it got down to about a gallon in the upper chamber. I removed the filters and scrubbed them down with a non-abrasive scotchbrite pad. That sped it up a bit, but it's still very slow. I assume I need to scrub a little more. I'm planning on getting a pre-filter of some sort since I found a coating of sediment in the upper chamber. I have to pull my water from before the water softener (I believe according to Berkey softened water going through the black elements voids their warranty) so it has no filter from the well. I had to do it a second time about 2 weeks later, too.
Otherwise, I would recommend it- with the caveat that it could be doing nothing other than changing the taste (and the taste is very good). But at some point I decided to trust the posted tests and various YouTube reviews.
Both of the black elements came with small chips (maybe 1/4" by 1/8" off the top edge of element) that I figured didn't matter, but it did annoy me.
I highly recommend the sight glass to go along with it.
I fill it to the top every time so I get the most filtering capacity out of as much of the filter as possible. I wish they would make them able to flipped - add a second outlet on top and have a plug for it. Otherwise the bottom half of the filter gets used mu...
We initially bought our Big Berkey for our business because we didn't like the taste of city water while we were at work. We have reverse osmosis at home, but now after tasting the Berkey water, we actually like it better than the reverse osmosis! We couldn't be happier with our purchase.
We're on our 3rd Berkey system and after 14 years of using the products, we could not be happier! Going from the Berkey Light to the Crown Berkey is just amazing for the quantity of clean water on tap. Going from 2 filters to 8 is just amazing! If you can afford it, I would highly recommend the largest Crown Berkey with 8 of the Black Berkey filters.
The best system you can buy. Owned mine for about 15 years. It sprung a leak, but HAD to purchase another one. I thought I was going to die while waiting for my new one. Got it now and feeling soo much better.
For my small kitchen, I wanted a small system that could remove fluoride and not require plumbing work. The Travel Berkey fits on my counter under the wall cabinets (though had to remove the knob to fit). I can fill it with a pull out faucet. The black filter needed a pass of water after priming to remove particles from production. But after about a half gallon, the water was free from chlorine and industrial dust and tasted great. Not sure if minerals from city's reservoir are still in the water, but still tastes great.
To prime the filters, I used a high-pressure squirt gun
For your health, for your convenience, for your pleasure, get a Berkey. I live alone and purchased the Travel Berkey. 5 Star company and 5 star product.
We have been using our Berkey water filtration system for years. I can't live without out! My girls stopped wasting money on bottled water, they love the taste of the Berkey water
We use the Berkey Light everyday. It sits on our kitchen counter, being clear, allows us to monitor the water levels. The elevated base makes getting a cup of water easy. Our water always had the smell of chlorine and with the Berkey Light, the smell is gone.
